A majority of Armenians continue to be against the Armenia-Turkey Protocols, according to a recent poll, conducted by the non-parliamentary Human Rights 96 organization, news.am reported Friday.

A grouping of 14 political parties and dozens of organizations opposing the ratification of the Turkey-Armenia protocols gathered at the Erebouni business center Tuesday to discuss future activities and efforts now that the protocols are awaiting approval by Armenia’s Constitutional Court.

The Armenian Revolutionary Federation Supreme Council of Armenia announced Tuesday that after receiving the authorities’ response on questions regarding the process of the Armenia-Turkey rapprochement, it plans to sue the government to prove the Foreign Ministry’s and government’s unconstitutional actions.

Town hall meetings have begun throughout the Western United States to inform Armenian communities of the current state of negotiations between Armenia and Turkey and the steps being taken to prevent the ratification of dangerous agreements between the two countries, the Armenian Youth Federation (AYF) reported on Saturday.

The recent signing of protocols by the governments of Armenia and Turkey that was brokered by leading states of the international community marks the beginning of a process that would lead to establishing diplomatic relations between the two countries. Constituencies in both countries find some or all of the protocols problematic. We the former presidents of the International Association of Genocide Scholars write to you to express our concern about one of them: the establishment of a historical commission to study the fate of the Armenian people in the Ottoman Empire in 1915.

On Nov. 6, representatives from five prominent Bay Area Armenian-American organizations met with the Armenian Prime Minister, Tigran Sargsyan, who was in Silicon Valley from November 5-8 attending the government sponsored ArmTech Congress ‘09.

-On November 4th, over 100 members of the Armenian Youth Federation (AYF) and ARF Shant Student Association (SSA) packed the halls of the Pasadena Armenian Center for a special discussion regarding the Armenia-Turkey protocols. The meeting was called by the AYF Central Executive in order to evaluate recent developments and outline the next steps in the campaign to stop the protocols.

The European Armenian Federation takes note of the fact that the Armenian Nation is all in all opposed in Armenia as well as in the Diaspora to the ratification of the protocols between Armenia and Turkey.

On Friday, Oct. 23, Turkey’s Ambassador to the U.S. Nabi Sensoy, appearing on a Voice of America television news segment on the recent Senate introduction of the Armenian Genocide Resolution, cited the newly signed Turkey-Armenia protocols as a reason for his government’s intensifying campaign to block U.S. recognition of this crime against humanity, reported the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA).
